Hey there, Doodle Owners! Elina here.
If your Doodle is anything like mine, sweet potatoes are basically their love language.
I love feeding my Bernedoodle, Oscar, sweet potatoes as a treat, but most store-bought options are packed with questionable ingredients.
So, here are five simple, nutritious sweet potato treat recipes that you can make at home in minutes. They’re cheaper than the store-bought kind and made with clean ingredients you can actually feel good about!
Sweet potatoes are the definition of delicious and nutritious. They’re loaded with vitamins A, B6, and C, plus they’re rich in dietary fiber, which can help with the digestion issues a lot of Doodles deal with. On top of that, they have potassium and iron to support muscle function and keep your pup feeling energetic and strong.
Since dogs are omnivores, studies show they thrive on a balanced diet that includes both animal protein and veggies. Adding whole foods like sweet potatoes gives them a natural dose of antioxidants to help fight inflammation and support overall cellular health.
Talk about a win-win-win! These crispy sweet potato chews are super simple to make, act as natural dental chews, and help reduce plaque. You can easily make them in the oven or an Air Fryer.
1–2 medium sweet potatoes
1 tbsp of coconut oil (optional)
These frozen treats are perfect for the summer, and since they're frozen, they will keep your Doodle cool and entertained. You can even prepare these in batches of 24 cubes to use throughout the month.
These bite-sized treats are perfect for training sessions. Since they are small, you can reward your Doodle frequently without overfeeding.
Mix all ingredients in a bowl to form a dough.
Roll the dough into small, pea-sized balls.
Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 15 minutes until they’re firm but still soft (not crunchy).
Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
These chewy strips combine lean protein from the chicken with the fiber and nutrients from the sweet potatoes, making for a high-value reward.
1 cup cooked, shredded chicken breast
1 cup mashed sweet potato
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C).
In a food processor, blend all ingredients until smooth.
Spread the mixture thinly onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Score the surface with a knife to create strip-sized portions.
Bake for 2 to 3 hours until the strips are dry but still slightly pliable.
Allow to cool completely, then break into strips along the score lines.
This treat combines the nutritional power of two superfoods, sweet potato and pumpkin, to support your Doodle's immune system.

½ cup pure pumpkin purée (ensure it's not pie filling)
2 cups brown rice flour
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients until a stiff dough forms.
Roll out the dough to a ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface.
Use cookie cutters or a knife to cut into desired shapes.
Place the shapes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until hard.
Allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
